Fall is officially here! The weather has cooled and whether you are enjoying walks in the crisp evening air, or attending sporting events with kids and grandchildren, this is a perfect time to be outside. Fall is also a busy time here at Wilson Law PLC. We are busy planning our client maintenance services for next year, connecting with existing clients, and interacting with new families that are coming to us for estate planning.

One of the important initiatives we have focused on this year is creating valuable content for our social media pages. Age with Grace: Boost Your Tech IQ Part I

Some of us missed the computer revolution. If you made it through school before computers were introduced to the classroom or your job does not require using a computer, technology may not have occupied a place in your everyday life. And you did not feel like you were missing anything.

However, these days, computers have become handheld in the form of a smart phone. Therefore they are becoming more and more essential to our day-to-day activities.

Here are some reasons to consider bumping up your comfort level with technology. If you are ready to take action, stay tuned! In part II of this article, we will walk you through the resources available to help you brush up on your technical skills.

Connect with People
Technology keeps us connected in new and exciting ways. If you have teenagers in your life, chances are that they are communicating extensively through their phones. Many families keep connected through group chats. Friend groups and social clubs can also keep each other up to date and converse together through a group chat or social media channel. In addition, the ability to do video chat - right from your phone - seems to be the next best thing to being in person!

Keep Pace with Business as Usual
More and more businesses and entire industries are moving toward app-based interactions with their customers. From ordering food at a fast food or casual restaurant to banking and beyond, mobile apps are becoming the conduit through which we do business. While you can usually continue to do business without going through an app on your smart phone, those people using the app frequently seem to receive priority.

Another key benefit to using an app is the real-time information available. You will know exactly when your mobile order is ready for pick up or - more importantly when you travel - if your flight is delayed or there is a last-minute gate change.

Get Mobile with Your Mobile Phone
Our cell phones are playing an increasing role in our mobility. Many new cars come with an app that allows you to access important dashboard information such as tire pressure and remaining mileage available. Some allow you to lock and unlock the car—and even start the ignition. If you tend to lose track of where you parked, some apps help you locate your car. This feature will also track your vehicle when it’s on the road.

Traveling by air? While you can still use a paper ticket, the convenience of a mobile boarding pass includes having your ticket on the cell phone you are carrying as well as the important benefit of real-time information such as gate changes and flight delays mentioned above.

Just Ask
From your smart phone, tablet, or computer, you have the world at your fingertips! The Internet is a place where a phrase or question can be typed into the search bar. For example:

Maybe you are looking for a new recipe for chicken. Or you have some unique finds from the farmer's market that you are not sure how to prepare, like a sunchoke. Or both combined! You will find countless recipes to consider with a quick internet search.

Always wanted to travel to Europe? Many museums and historic sites have virtual tours you can take right from the comfort of your favorite seat at home. Maybe you're planning a trip and want to create an itinerary.

Remembering a favorite toy or restaurant from your childhood? The internet can likely pull up photos and sometimes even videos of your own fond memories. For example, did your family road trip in a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere II station wagon? You can conjure up some images - and likely some memories - with a simple internet search.

When you are looking for information, you can almost always find some answers on the internet! A caution however, you should not try to get a medical diagnosis, tax advice, or get legal advice from the internet. There is a vast amount of misinformation found on the internet, therefore you should always contact a knowledgeable professional.

Start surfing!
If you want to find out more about adding technology to your life, reach out to family and friends and ask for a quick tour. Your local library is also a great place to start—most libraries offer free computers. Also, stop by a store that sells smart phones, tablets, and laptops and start there. A lot of them offer free classes. For more ideas on how to give technology a try as well as resources for learning more, watch for part II of this article!

This lecture will be unlike any other lecture you’ve heard before; Mr. Quarstein’s charisma and passion for Civil War history will keep you on your toes and fully entranced by the harrowing tales of Civil War survivors and victims. Beach by Horseback Fundraiser

This event will have a professional photographer as well as a horse trainer to make sure the event goes as smoothly as possible. Battle of Kemp's Landing Re-enactment

Ready to defend your country? Come meet at the historic Adam Thoroughgood House to witness the American Revolution through the Battle of Kemp’s Landing! Reenactors and witnesses are equally invited to watch the Royal Navy sailors and officers from the HMS Otter attack the American coast with 18 th -century style boats. This event will also host several vendors that specialize in history-related goods. Feeling like you can fight against the evil British Navy? For one evening, fall-back-in-love with Williamsburg during the Lighting of the Cressets! These cressets were the original lamp posts used by the colonists to light up the dark streets at night. Historic Williamsburg looks very different without artificial light, and you will feel as though you’ve travelled through time when walking past candle-lit streets. Their intense flames are perfect for inspiring the spooky feeling of being inside Colonial Williamsburg at night. Recipe Corner

Pumpkin Cheese Ball

Ingredients:

3 cups orange cheese puffs
2 pounds cream cheese, at room temperature
3 cups shredded Cheddar
1/4 cup chopped chives
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 bell pepper with a long stem
Crackers, for serving

Directions:

Put the cheese puffs in a food processor and process until finely ground. Transfer to a rimmed baking sheet.
Combine the cream cheese, Cheddar, chives, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a large bowl and mix to combine. Mold the mixture into a ball, pressing the top of the ball with your hand to flatten it. With the tip of a butter knife, carve lines down the sides to resemble a pumpkin.
Roll the cheese ball in the ground cheese puffs. Remove the entire bell pepper stem with a paring knife and put it on top of the cheeseball as the pumpkin stem. Seed and slice the bell pepper. Serve the cheeseball on a plate with crackers and slices of bell pepper.
